That particular 1985 moment, documented by the Richmond Times-Dispatch, was when I figured out why more politicians aren’t willing to buck up to the National Rifle Association on gun regulation issues.

Months later, in the 3rd Street Diner, when I told former-City Council representative Willie Dell about my epiphany at City Hall, she chuckled at what had been my naiveté and said, "Of course."
Yes, of course.
