Here’s a story from my adventure as a candidate. In the spring of 1984 I was on the ballot, running for a seat on Richmond's City Council. “The Sound” is a recounting of an episode from that time. In the summer of 2000 this version of it ran in STYLE Weekly.The photo above was snapped at one of my all-time favorite restaurants, Grace Place -- the site of what was billed as my "Victory Party" -- at the very moment I (foreground) realized there was no chance to win the election. Ouch! It was shot by a journalism student at VCU (I don‘t remember her name), she had made a project out of documenting my campaign, such as it was.
