Democrats and others who dislike George W. Bush as a president, even as a person, enjoy poking fun at him. Likewise, they like to rake him over the hot coals, too. President Bush is being criticized/laughed at more and more for his failures, his un-curiosity, his accent and the corruption that seemingly swirls around him.
Count me among those who were outraged by his disaster of a decision to launch a preemptive war in Iraq. Still, in the long run that may play out any number of ways. I am increasingly exasperated by Bush’s pose as a conservative, while he drives the national debt off the charts to shovel more money toward his wealthy pals.
Yet, ten years from now Bush may well be remembered much more for something else altogether. Hurricane Katrina may have just been foreshadowing.
If global warming really does continue to stir up meaner storms and cause all the rest of the nasty ecological stuff a raft of scientists are saying is already underway, Bush may be remembered as the clueless American President who was asleep at the switch when the worst, most irreversible damage was done to life’s balance as we’ve known it on this planet.
Here’s a Reuters story about the scary effects of Bush’s corporate-friendly policy for exploiting Planet Earth without regard for nature: “U.S. leads rise in 2004 greenhouse gas emissions”
Of course, one thing always leads to another and unintended consequences ensue. The benefit from all manner of weather-related calamity might stimulate more exploration of outer space, as our species looks for a new planet to inhabit/infest.
