RICHMOND, Va. – Tarique Foster (Bronx, N.Y./Putnam Science Academy) has signed a National Letter of Intent with VCU, Rams’ Head Coach Mike Rhoades announced on Wednesday, the beginning of the NCAA’s early signing period.
A 6-foot-8, 175-pound wing, Foster is a logical fit for VCU’s pressing attack, which favors long, athletic players on the wings. On the offensive end, the Bronx, N.Y. native has developed into a dangerous perimeter scorer and ball handler.
“Our staff is very excited to have Tarique in our family,” Rhoades said. “He is exactly what we wanted: A long, athletic and versatile player with great upside. He can make plays on both ends of the court. His ability to make shots in various ways is a huge advantage. He is just starting to realize how good he can become. We can’t wait to work with him.”
Foster starred for Cardinal Hayes High School for four seasons under Coach Joe Lods. As a senior in 2021-22, Foster averaged 16 points and six rebounds per game, while leading the Cardinals to a State Championship and a 26-3 record. Cardinal Hayes finished the year ranked No. 7 nationally by MaxPreps.
Additionally, Foster was a standout for Coach Mugsy Leggett and the New York Wiz Kids on the AAU circuit. He will prep this season at Defending National Champion Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut for Coach Tom Espinosa.
Foster picked VCU over interest from Rutgers, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Pitt and others.
