Springsteen on WGOE (1973)

This music and interview recording was made in 1973 at Alpha Audio. It was created to play on WGOE's AM airwaves. The featured artist is Bruce Springsteen. This is after Steel Mill but before the E Street Band.

The link came via the Facebook page for Fans of WGOE "All the way right."

Thanks Terry. That was great listen. When Steel Mill was around, I took it all for granted, or maybe I was too young and green to realize how special Springsteen was. I remember seeing him open for Dan Hicks and thinking he sounded like a second-rate Van Morrison wanna-be. Shows how much I knew. This also got me thinking about what a gem WGOE was. A free-form AM radio station. Have you ever heard of another? I think that was the last time there was a good station in Richmond. They sure eat it up here in D.C. now.

Bruce, my remembrances of Springsteen in Richmond during the Child/Steel Mill era are not so different. Although I liked him and his music well enough, I had no sense that he would be a big star. And, I was at that free show at the VCU gym (Feb. 14, 1973). Springsteen opened. But I went to see a band I loved -- Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks.
