Edwards is kaput

The televised debate tonight was more entertaining than most presidential debates, and it may prove to have been a pivotal event for some of the Democrats on the CNN stage in Las Vegas.

In my view, candidates Clinton, Obama and Richardson separated themselves from the other four on the stage. Perhaps more significant was that Edwards faded. Thus, from here on Richardson may be seen as the only alternative to a choice between Obama and Clinton.

Yes, the Edwards campaign is kaput.

Clinton made no new friends, but she was steady. Obama came off as thoughtful, but he missed some opportunities. While soundbites and slogans aren't his strong suit, Richardson 's overall performance seemed the best. He may be everybody else's first choice for Veep.

From here on, the other guys are praying for a miracle.
